Summer Associates
Many of our lawyers have joined the firm through our summer associate program. Summer associates at HCMP become an integral part of the firm during their time with us, working with attorneys in each of the firm's practice areas. A member of the firm's Hiring Committee acts as the Summer Associate Coordinator and oversees the assignment of individual projects. We make every effort to accommodate practice area interests expressed by our summer associates, keeping in mind the available projects and the needs of each practice group.
Position Overview
The goal of the HCMP Summer Associate program is to recruit law students to join the firm as associates after they graduate. To achieve that goal, the firm asks its summer associates to work with lawyers across various practice groups so that the summer associates develop an understanding of what our firm’s lawyers do. Typical projects might involve:
- Performing legal research and analysis
- Drafting memoranda, transactional documents, pleadings, or other documents
- Attending meetings, hearings, or other matter-related events, and
- Performing other tasks to help lawyers achieve client goals.
The firm gathers feedback on every project summer associates complete. To help our summer associates become acquainted with the firm’s lawyers and other business professionals—and vice versa—we host a series of social events throughout the summer. At the end of the summer, we evaluate each summer associate’s overall performance with the goal of making offers to join the firm after graduation.
HCMP offers an atmosphere of excellence for attorneys and staff in a collegial, non-institutional setting and is an equal-opportunity employer.
