Business and Transactional Legal Assistant

Hillis Clark Martin & Peterson P.S. is seeking a full-time transactional legal assistant to support our business practice. HCMP’s business practice has extensive and broad-based experience in advising corporations, partnerships, limited liability companies, nonprofits and tax-exempt organizations. Our general corporate and business counsel includes advising on day-to-day legal questions, internal and external contract review and negotiation, risk analysis and reduction strategies, and compliance and regulatory issues. We are experienced in providing creative and pragmatic solutions to achieve clients’ business needs, which includes handling corporate formation, structuring, financing, acquisition and disposition matters.

Successful candidates must be reliable, be able to work as a part of a team, possess strong attention to detail, exercise excellent organizational skills, be able to handle multiple projects, and take pride in providing the highest-quality work product. Excellent communication skills, including writing, editing, proofreading, and typing are necessary.

Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Word-processing, proofreading, editing, and comparing documents
  • Formatting, proofreading and finalizing documents and correspondence
  • Prioritizing, calendaring, and tracking deadlines
  • Conducting conflicts checking and new matter opening
  • Maintaining and closing files
  • Emails and phone calls with clients
  • Other duties as assigned

Desired qualifications:

  • Excellent word-processing and complex document formatting skills
  • Strong proofreading skills; attention to detail and accuracy is a must
  • Strong organizational, prioritization, and communication skills
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Office applications (especially Word, Excel and Outlook) and Adobe Acrobat
  • Proficiency in document management and timekeeping systems; experience with Prolaw is a plus
  • Ability to work effectively within tight deadlines

Litigation Legal Assistant

Hillis Clark Martin & Peterson P.S. is currently seeking an experienced full-time litigation legal assistant. Our litigation team practices in all areas of dispute resolution, including trial and appellate litigation, arbitration, mediation, and regulatory proceedings in matters involving corporate and business disputes; employment law; creditors' rights, bankruptcy and insolvency; unfair trade practices; securities; product liability; intellectual property; eminent domain and inverse condemnation; and land use and real estate. Our team also enjoys working together on pro bono litigation for individuals and entities who have suffered injustice but cannot afford legal representation. 

Successful candidates must be reliable, be able to work as a part of a team, possess strong attention to detail, exercise excellent organizational skills, be able to handle multiple projects, and take pride in providing the highest-quality work product. Excellent communication skills, including writing, editing, proofreading, and typing are necessary. Knowledge of local, state and federal court rules is strongly preferred.

Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Managing federal and state court filings (ECF) and coordinating service
  • Formatting, proofreading, and finalizing correspondence, briefs, pleadings, and discovery material
  • Maintaining files from open to close, including conducting conflict checks and new matter opening
  • Docketing, calendaring, and tracking deadlines
  • Communicating with clients, opposing counsel, court staff, and court reporters

Desired qualifications:

  • Prior substantive working experience in a litigation support role
  • Ability to handle cases from pre-suit through trial, as well as experience with court procedures and e-filing
  • Knowledge of local, state, federal, and appellate court rules and Office of the Hearing Examiner procedural rules is strongly preferred;
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Office applications (especially Word, Excel and Outlook) and Adobe Acrobat
  • Prior experience with BEC or other docketing software experience is helpful
  • Proficiency in document management and timekeeping systems; experience with Prolaw is a plus
  • Strong proofreading skills; attention to detail and accuracy is a must
  • Strong organizational, prioritization, and communication skills
